Kabul 6 June, 2012

The AIHRC strongly condemns the killing of 40 civilians in the suicide attacks in Kandahar city as well in the night operations by the NATO forces in Pul-e Alam area of Logar province. According to media report on 6 June,2012, twenty two people, all civilians, were killed as a result of successive suicide attacks in Kandahar city, and 17 others who were all women and children were killed on 5 June, 2012 during an evening operation by NATO forces in Pul-e Alam area of Logar province

The AIHRC expressing its serious concern about the rise in civilian casualties caused by suicide attacks carried out by the armed government oppositions, and NATO operations, considers killing of civilians a gross violation of human rights. Right to life is a divine right, and no person shall be deprived of this right without any legal authorization. Killing of innocent people is forbidden in Islam, and killing of civilians and those who do not participate directly in the war is prohibited in the country's Constitution as well as in the international instruments on human rights.

The AIHRC once again calls on all parties to the conflict to seriously avoid intentional and unintentional killing of civilians and try to avoid inflicting loss of life and damages to civilians’ property.
