Killing of 20 civilians and wounding of 34 others in a suicide attacks carried out in a funeral ceremony near Taleghan city of Takhar province is an explicit crime against humanity and a clear violations of International Humanitarian Laws.
 

KABUL, 26 December 2011

On Sunday, Jadi 4, 1390 (December 25, 2011), 20 civilians were killed and 34 others were injured in a suicide attack carried out in a funeral ceremony near Taloqan city. No militant group has claimed responsibility for this incident so far.

 

The AIHRC expresses its sympathy and condolences to the grieved families of the victims and wish quick recovery for the wounded of this incident.

The AIHRC considers the killing of civilians to be contrary to both International Laws and Islamic Principles, and condemns such attacks on religious places, health centers, schools and other public areas, protected by the International Humanitarian Laws, in the strongest possible terms.

 

In this attack that was carried out on Jadi 4, 1390 (December 25, 2011) civilians were clearly targeted. This was a serious breach of both national and international human rights law according to the Geneva Conventions. The AIHRC therefore expresses its serious concern, and requests that the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan spares no efforts in investigating about this incident and bringing the perpetrators of these terrible human rights abuses to justice.
