Press release on denouncing of desecration of human dead bodies
Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission strongly denounce desecration of human dead bodies by US soldiers and urges the authorities to conduct effective investigation and prosecution of the issue and to seriously struggle against such violations. Images published on desecration of the dead bodies by US soldiers are in direct opposition to all human values and standards of human rights and international humanitarian law. According to international standards of human rights all sides of the conflict have the duty to respect human dignity and should avoid any kind of desecration of human dead bodies. The AIHRC has repeatedly and seriously protested on non-compliance to international standards of human rights and humanitarian law by the conflict sides in Afghanistan and has warned against repetition of such behavior and conducts. The AIHRC while, once again, emphasizing on the responsibilities of all sides involved in the conflict to respect international standards of human rights and a humanitarian law, strongly condemn such behavior and urges the authorities involved to carry out prompt investigation into the issue and to prosecute as well as punish the perpetrators of this crime.
