AIHRC Statement on Failed Attempt against Senate Chief

 

The failed assassination attempt against the Chief of Meshrano Jirga (Senate), who simultaneously heads the National Independent Commission for Peace Strengthening, has escalated security concerns in the wake of terrorist attacks by the enemies of peace and security in large parts of our country.

While our national determination has converged with the international will to put an end to conflict and insecurity and to start a new peaceful era, this attempt is an unpleasant incident that indicates a new phase of the modus operandi of the terrorists and enemies of Afghanistans peace and security. The targeting of a senior-level government official in the capital Kabul is undoubtedly for terrorist purposes.

Condemning this assassination attempt unreservedly, the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) calls on the Government, security agencies in particular, to consciously prevent the reoccurrence of such acts and further urges the international community to redouble its assistance for the people and Government of Afghanistan to ensure security in the country.
